Ten Of Dublin’s Most Reliable Cafes To ‘Meet For a Coffee’ At Christmas

Alan Fisher

Work is mental, Christmas nights out have your head in bits and your still struggling over whether to get your dad socks or a scarf this year. It’s all go and yet we still have to find time to catch up with people before the year is out.

Whether it’s best friends, family or college mates you haven’t seen in months, there’s endless “meet for a coffee” texts flying around.

Your brain is melted and you don’t need the extra stress of wrestling in a crowded coffee shop, so I have picked out some of my most reliable places where you’re guaranteed good coffee and good vibes.

Here they are:

1. Clement & Pekoe

Is there a better place to start than in the heart of the city? This gem situated on South William Street is the perfect place to stop and take a breather. It’s just a stone’s throw from Grafton Street which means you can pop over when your mum is getting on your nerves while Christmas shopping. Inside is delightful but the real beauty is in the benches outside. You can literally sit there people-watching all day.

2. Hatch

This is my Southside baby. Run by three sisters, you definitely get the welcoming family feel the minute you walk in. They make a mean coffee and some delicious treats but the best part is the sheer amount of dogs that pass through this establishment. You could spend hours in there just petting these furry friends. Head down the back, sit in front of the fireplace and take it all in.

3. Little Bird

It’s one of the cutest little cafes around but it has a big heart. A great place to grab all your vegetarian and vegan food along with some tasty coffee. And of course, if you’re feeling flexible, you can also pop upstairs for a Yoga class.

4. Two pups

Two pups never fails, let’s put it that way. Very unassuming from the outside but the minute you push passed the David Bowie lightning strike on the door you enter a small heaven. They have a few lovely little snugs that you can cuddle in to which are also great Instagram opportunities. And this is all before you try their delicious coffee.

5. Two Boys Brew

This is my go-to on the Northside. I adore everything about this place. If you fancy food, hit up the smashed Avo. This beauty comes with two insta-perfect poached eggs but make sure you get a side of chorizo. Two Boys Brew will never let you down.

6. Fumbally

Don’t let the outside deceive you – it looks very formal but step inside to high ceilings, plenty of space and bloody lovely coffee. You’re spoilt for choices with the different types of seating but if I was you, I’d take a hard right and make a beeline towards the comfy armchairs. Sink into one of these and let your troubles disappear.

7. 3fe

We all know it. It’s a beautiful little spot. It’s got incredible coffee. Staff are sound. What more can you ask for?

8. TwoFifty Square

This fantastic place is always a good idea. The Rathmines cafe has a big open floor with plenty of seats which means you’ll never be left waiting.

9. Daniel

Can I call this “reliable” even though it’s only been open a wet week? Technically, no. But it’s one of 3fe’s offsprings which means they definitely know what they’re doing. The new cafe is serving up fine coffee along with some of the best toasties in town. Definitely worth giving a go.

10. Bewleys

Yes I know it closed down so we have some trust issues, but doesn’t everyone deserve a second chance? This cafe is part of our heritage and for a good reason. Sitting right in the middle of Grafton Street, there is no easier place to stop. There’s always a great atmosphere in here, especially around Christmas time and they serve up one of the nicest Hot Chocolates!

Any of these cafes are perfect spots to meet for a coffee so take your pick, sit back and enjoy.
