A Dublin-Based Psychologist Has Said That Non-Smokers Should Get Up To 6 Extra Annual Leave Days

If you're a non-smoker in the office, you should be entitled to an extra few days off work, at least according to Psychologist at The D4 Clinic, Jason O'Callaghan.

The Irish Examiner reports that the leading psychologist and hypnotherapist said that Irish companies should offer those who don't smoke six extra holiday days off work to make up for the time they work when people go on 'smoke breaks'.

It has become popular in Japanese companies and O'Callaghan said it should be brought into Ireland.

Speaking to newspaper he said, "As the country that introduced the smoking ban, we should encourage Irish-based companies to do the same.

"With corporate wellness now at the forefront for so many companies, this would not just lead to a healthier workforce but also a more productive company, as each smoker who quits would win back a month of working hours."

The famous psychologist said that smokers work one month less than non-smokers per year as smokers usually take 15 minutes per smoke break.

He said, "Just four a day is an hour from the workday wasted. That's five hours a week or 20 hours a month, which works out at 2.5 days and if you multiply that by 12 months. That's a full 30 days a year that [a] company is paying a staff member to smoke."
