A Surprising Amount of People Have Failed Roadside Drug Tests Since April

clodagh

New roadside drug testing procedures were introduced in April, and since then, only 11 people have tested positive for driving while under the influence.

According to the Irish Independent, since the new procedures came into place almost four months ago, there were three positive tests in April, one in May and seven in the following months.

Almost all tests – bar one – tested positive in Dublin city.

The other positive test was carried out in Wexford.

The high number of positive tests in Dublin is believed to be linked to the number of Officers receiving training; those in Dublin are among the first to implement these new tests.

The new tests, which involve testing a driver’s saliva to see if they’ve taken any drugs, are set to continue throughout the Guards nationwide.
