Doors Remain Closed At Hundreds Of Schools Across Ireland Today

Alana Laverty

Just over 400 secondary schools closed yesterday as the dispute over newly-qualified teachers’ pay continued.

And a further 100 schools are set to close today as members of the Association of Secondary Teachers Ireland strike.

Over 250,000 students across Ireland will be affected by closures.

However, schools where the majority of teachers are members of the Teachers’ Union of Ireland will remain today.

The strike action comes after the mid term break, where over 250,000 students were expected to return to school yesterday.

Today’s strike is the second of seven to be held between now and December over pay scales for new entrant teachers.
