Man Armed With Knife Hijacks Car With Toddler In The Back In Phoenix Park

Gardai are investigating after a man armed with a knife hijacked a car with a toddler in the backseat in the Phoenix Park this weekend.

According to Dublin Live, the hijacker approached the SUV as it drove along Conyngham Road and pulled a male and female from the front seats of the vehicle.

He then proceeded to drive away, but stopped when he noticed that there was a one-year-old child in the back seat.

The couple removed the child from the back seat before the hijacker drove away again.

The incident occurred shortly after 11pm on Sunday night.

Gardai said in a statement: “Gardaí at Kevin St, Dublin 8 are investigating an incident which occurred at Conyngham Road, Islandbridge at approximately 11.15pm last night.

“A SUV vehicle was exiting the Phoenix Park when a male approached the vehicle and threatened the driver and passenger, male and female. Suspect was armed with a knife.

“Both male and female were pulled from the vehicle, no injuries sustained. Suspect then drove SUV from scene with a one-year old child in the back seat, vehicle stopped and suspect ordered injured parties to take child from vehicle.

“No direction of travel. The SUV is still listed as stolen.”
