PICS: The Phoenix Park Tunnel Opened This Morning And Made History

Alana Laverty

After a lengthy €13.7 million upgrade, the Phoenix Park Tunnel reopened this morning.

The tunnel, which was first built in 1877, was never used for daily passenger trains – until today.

The 6:14AM train from Newbridge travelled through the tunnel, into Connolly and, finally, into Grand Canal Dock.

The response so far has been fantastic – this will make life a whole lot easier for commuters from the likes of Newbridge and Hazelhatch.

All good so far.
