Temple Bar Residents Are Seriously Not Happy About This New Proposal

Residents of one of Dublin's biggest hotspots, Temple Bar, are taking a stance to try and prevent one of the area's oldest shops being replaced with a massive restaurant.

Temple Bar Residents (TBR) represents the 2,300 people living in the area.

And according to The Times, they are opposed to plans by the owners of the shop Eager Beaver, Robert and Siobhán Woodnutt, to convert the second-hand clothing store into a two-story restaurant-bar. 

The reason is they think there are already plenty of places to eat, drink and socialise in the area.

A spokesperson for TBR said that the residents are concerned because the restaurant-bar had a "music offering" and a plan for outdoor seating.

Declan O'Brien said: "Nobody could argue that there is a shortage of cafés, bars and restaurants in Temple Bar and especially within a 100-metre radius of this premises."

He added: "All of this was permitted by the planners and promoted by Temple Bar Properties largely because some of the funding was sourced under an EU tourism programme, which put the emphasis on vastly increasing footfall in the area."

TBR said that there area already thirteen cafés, restaurants and bars within 50 metres of the vintage clothing store.

According to O'Brien, the residents are calling on An Bórd Pleanála to reject plans for the restaurant and ensure a more balanced mix of uses in the area.

The owners of the vintage shop have since indicated that plans for outdoor seating and music to be played outside the premises would be dropped.
