The Stormzy Mural Has Been Painted Over – And The Artists Left A Genius Plaque In Its Place

The Stormzy mural in Smithfield has been painted over, leaving a dull grey wall in its place. 

Dublin City Council had requested that the artwork be removed as no planning permission had been sought. 

Last month the group behind the mural, Subset, painted this clever addition.

Now they've left a tongue-in-cheek plaque in its place, describing the "Grey Wall" as a "standout piece in Dublin City Council’s continuing series on the transience and meaninglessness of art". 

"The drab, lifeless scene drains the colour from its surroundings, giving a stark warning about the threat of bureaucracy to imagination," it continues. 

"A powerful statement to Smithfield's growing creative community about the fragility of art."

Meanwhile another mural, also protesting against Dublin City Council, has popped up on Trinity Street.

Lots of people have taken to Twitter over the past few weeks to share their disappointment over the loss of the popular Stormzy piece.
