This DCU Student’s Story Of Homelessness Will Give You Goosebumps

Alana Laverty

Every Christmas DCU’s Media Production Society (MPS) hold a 24-hour broadcast streamed live on YouTube in aid of a particular charity.

I was lucky enough to be involved in three of these  broadcasts during my time in DCU and still consider it to be one of the best things I’ve ever been involved with. Over seven thousand euros was raised for last year’s chosen charity.

This year MPS will be donating all proceeds raised to the Peter McVerry Trust upon the suggestion by Laura Horan, a final year journalism student in DCU, who battled with homelessness herself.

Watch Laura’s story in the video above and stay tuned for details on how to donate to the trust this Christmas through the broadcast.

I think it’s important for people to donate to the Peter McVerry Trust because of the huge amount of homeless people in Ireland, including young children and pregnant women.

Having a home should be a basic right and donating to this charity can help everyday people receive the same rights as others! It’s horrible to not have somewhere to call your own, and donating to this charity can help so many people and change their lives completely.
