The famous Waltons music shop on South Great George’s Street has closed its doors for the last time.
The shop was well known for appearing in the movie Once, and tourists would often come to see the spot where Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová performed the Oscar-winning song Falling Slowly.
However soaring rents and online shopping has left the Walton family with no choice but to relocate to their new store in Blanchardstown.
“Times are changing and we must change with them!” they wrote on Facebook.
“The reason for this move is to restructure our business in a way that we will be able to offer our customers the best music choices possible at the best prices in the future.
“With the ever rising costs of doing business in the city centre we need to make sure that our cost base does not make us uncompetitive.”
The Waltons School of Music, which is above the South Great George’s Street shop, will continue to offer music lessons to the public.
Still, the street just won’t be the same without the shop.
