Thousands Of Dubliners Reject Redevelopment Of Iconic Dublin Landmark

According to 98FM, 14,000 people have objected to the Hellfire Club in the Dublin Mountains being redeveloped. 

It was originally built in 1725 as a hunting lodge for a Speaker of the Irish House of Commons, William Connolly. As the story goes, "when he passed away in 1729 the lodge was taken over by an unruly young man who'd been banned from every public house in the city. From then on the Hell Fire Club became a location where hedonistic behaviour was encouraged and welcomed, and it was a hot bed for all sorts of illegal activity such as drinking, gambling and satanism."

Here's one of the many spooky stories that surrounds it. 

The iconic landmark has become notorious in Dublin as a sight-seeing attraction among locals but if South Dublin County Council have their way, they will turn it into a major tourist attraction.

Local Fine Gael TD Colm Brophy says that by doing this, there will be permanent traffic on weekends and any fine days around the area.
