Conor McGregor Has Spoken Out About His Dad’s Infamous “Coinage” Video

James Fenton

Most of us have been embarrassed by our auld lads at some point and multi-millionaire sport stars are no exception.

Take Tony McGregor for example. When Conor’s dad posted a fairly innocent rant about the DART a few months back, it quickly became one of the social media stories of the summer.

Terms like “coinage” and “none too plussed” became part of everyday Dublin lexicon and the clip didn’t go unnoticed by Tony’s son.

In a wide-ranging interview with Ariel Helwani for his MMA show, Conor spoke about his upcoming fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov but also took time to air his views on Tony’s social media habits. When asked about his dad becoming a viral sensation, Conor responded “I’m thinking, where’ my ma to get that phone out of his bleedin’ hand! My da’s off his head, that’s the way it is. Up the McGregors!”

You can hear Conor’s thoughts on Tony from around the 28.50 mark in the clip below. Conor also talks about how he donated €10,000 to a GoFundMe page for a young Irish boy named Bryan McCullough and the whole interview is worth a listen if you’ve got half an hour to spare.
