PICS: Employees At St.James’s Hospital “Required” To Do This During The Pope’s Visit

As the whole capital gets ready to welcome his holiness to town, his arrival is putting a huge amount of pressure on the city.

Dublin City Council announced the lengthy list of road closures for the Papal Visit, while it was also confirmed that Dublin Bus real-time information would be non-existent for the weekend too.

Now that pressure is spilling over into the workplace as nurses, doctors and other members of staff at St.James's Hospital are being forced to wear an "essential worker pass" in order to pass the Garda cordons around the city with their car.

However, it's what's on the badges that have annoyed and upset many people and those in question have contacted Dublin Independent Senator Lynn Ruane to help out.

Ruane took to Twitter to say that she had been "contacted by employees at St James's Hospital who are disgusted that they are required to wear a badge with a crucifix on it.

"They were told they can't go to work without it. We have such a diverse workforce in hospitals of varying religions & none. [This is] disrespectful."

She continued:

"It's a pass to enter work. So basically they cant get into work without it . Very easily could have created a pass without religious iconography on it."

Some are saying that the pass looks like an official Government one and not just one for St.James's Hospital meaning that lots more people in the city might be forced to wear one if they want to use their cars.
