Thrill seekers, fitness fanatics and adventure lovers everywhere rejoice – your cries have been heard, and no longer do you have to settle on awkward dinners for your first dates.
Get your blood pumping and push some boundaries with these six – all of them sure to be a day to remember, and a good story to tell when you inevitably fall for each other/fall from a height.
Happy dating…
1. Jump Zone, Sandyford/Santry
Niftily located either side of the river, meaning that you’re never too far from the best way to spend a day out.
As a date, it’s ideal for many reasons.
- Realistically, you’re not going to bump into anyone you know (literally or figuratively).
- You get some exercise (meaning you’ll leave full of endorphins)
- The ice is broken as soon as you arrive
- And, your inhibitions will pale into insignificance due to you doubling over laughing at your other half on a constant basis
And afterwards you can head to either Barista’s Cafe, Sandyford or Little Venice, Santry depending on your location. Lovely.
2. Rainforest Adventure Golf, Dundrum Town Centre
Ah, crazy golf. The original high school date from American films we all dreamed of. And more recently made popular by a certain Jamie Laing of Made In Chelsea.
Mini golf is the perfect opportunity to show off some niche skills, while genuinely having fun and getting to know someone.
Rainforest Adventure Golf also offer a date night on Mondays and Tuesdays – €9 per person for a round of mini golf and a pizza to share. Now tell us, is there any better way to start the week?
3. Rock Climbing, Gravity Climbing Centre Inchicore
This one is not for the faint-hearted.
For those of you who haven’t been rock climbing before, it’s bloody hard (especially if you’re like the majority of us in LD towers who have noodle arms) but it’s also wildly entertaining.
A great shout for those of you who have fitness in common with your one true love, as well as those of you who are keen to have a proper laugh while getting to know someone suspended in the air. Gravity Climbing Centre, Inchicore is your only man.
4. Wild Wicklow Tour, Departs from Stephen’s Green
Ireland is widely considered one of the most romantic places in the whole world (see PS I Love You, Leap Year, Once) and why not use your geographical advantage to woo the person of your dreams?
The Wild Wicklow Tour is a whole day long (08:50-17:30) which gives you a guide of some of the most beautiful places Ireland has to offer. The bus has several collection points all around the city and along the route to Wicklow, making it very easy to get involved.
Tickets are €28 which is pretty good going for a whole day of fun – and less than €4 an hour if you want to calculate it that way.
5. Dublin City Highlights Bike Tour
A different way to see the city, and also showcase the wheelies you used to be able to do as a kid. For sure way to win someone’s heart.
Dublin City Highlights Bike Tour is a comprehensive guide throughout the city, showcasing some of the city’s most important places, as well as hearing about some of its most important people.
Tickets are €27 quid, and they include a state of the art Dahon Urban Bike (mu uno), helmet, bike safety, snack and water, a personalised map of Dublin, and more conversation points for the drinks later on than you could possibly imagine.
6. Zipit, Tibradden Wood, Dublin
The motherload.
Zipit Forest Adventures is a forest adventure company specialising in adventurous trail courses in the treetops, just 15 minutes from Dundrum Town Centre. It’s also five minutes from Johnny Fox’s Pub, for some well deserved pints and food afterwards.
If your date agrees to go to this with you, stick a ring on – you’ve found yourself a winner.
