Autumn has well and truly begun, so we thought we’d mark this momentous occasion in the annual fashion calendar by paying tribute to our favourite trans-seasonal cover up: the trench coat. Originally worn by Army officers during the First World War, the trench coat has become a wardrobe staple for men and women of every age. Traditionally, the Army trench coat was khaki in colour, but design houses like Burberry and Aquascutum - both of whom claim ownership over its invention as a fashion item - have re-designed it in shades like beige, black, navy, grey and even bolder shades of pink and aqua blue.
