Looking for something different to do this Valentine’s Day? Trying to avoid people and do something that’s actually… y’know… fun?
Well it turns out Dublin has our back once more, and actually has quite a lot of alternative things to do on the weekend that shall not be named.
Here’s our pick of the best nine.
1. Cocktail making classes
Learn a fun, new skill with your significant other this Valentine’s Day at the special Couples Cocktail Masterclasses that are being held in Opium, Eastside Tavern and South William on both the Saturday (13th) and Sunday (14th) of Valentine’s weekend this year.
There, you’ll get top tips from expert mixologists and loads of cracking booze afterwards. A cool, original way to spend some quality time with your special someone.
See below for details on Opium, and click here for details on Eastside Tavern or here for South William.
2. Walk Dublin City’s alternative Valentine’s Day Trail
Brought to you by Dublin City Council, the alternative Valentine’s Day Trail covers the most romantic ground of our fair city all in one convenient lay out.
Perfect if it’s a nice day out.
3. Tandem cycling
Get yourself stuck into one of the historically most embarrassing activities for two, and have a proper laugh.
Renting a tandem from Phoenix Park Bike Hire is only €10 for the hour, €20 for three and is guaranteed to keep you entertained for the whole day. Might be worth calling ahead for the day that’s in it…
4. Gravity Bar at the Guinness Storehouse
Are you or your significant other a Guinness drinker? Do you enjoy breathtaking views and a good day out?
Thought so.
It’s one of those things you’ve been meaning to do for ages, and here’s your excuse: be an Irish tourist for the day and get yourself to the Gravity Bar at the Guinness Storehouse in D8.
5. Visit Saint Valentine himself
Sure isn’t he only a stones throw away in the Carmelite Church on Whitefriar Street.
It’s his day after all, may as well pay him a visit – and nothing says romance quite like a centuries-old corpse.
6. Visit The Bean Bag Cinema
The Bean Bag Cinema is the perfect way to celebrate a cosy, romantic night in without having to deal with the fuss and hubbub of Valentine’s Day.
Boasting an 8ft cinema screen – Big Earl – the carnival-style popcorn machine and the absolute comfiest seats in town are a steal at just €15 for two sharing.
7. Ennio Morricone: The 60 Years of Music
Ennio Morricone, a musical genius by global standards, is playing what is set to be a once in a lifetime show on February 14 in the 3Arena.
Tickets will set you back a pretty penny, but they will be absolutely worth it, even if you only manage to get the cheap seats.
8. Funk Actually @ Bello Bar
This Valentines’ day, join Dublin’s most sophisticated soul merchants Danny G & the Major 7ths as they return to their favourite live setting to bring you their first gig of 2016.
Located in the super-trendy Bello Bar, you’re guaranteed a night full of good music, good atmosphere and cracking drinks.
9. The Smithfield Valentine’s Market Fair
A Valentine’s edition of the monthly event of market stalls, installations, music and food offerings set in the trendy Generator Hostel, Smithfield.
Expect all the usuals, with a romantic twist of course. Open from 12pm-7pm.
