The Notorious Conor McGregor was in classic form at the pre-UFC 205 press conference in New York last night.
There was an empty seat with his name on it for the first part of the media briefing as his opponent Eddie Alvarez and UFC President Dana White faced awkward questions about the Irishman’s whereabouts.
Alvarez curiously declared his disappointment at the whole country of Ireland for McGregor’s no show while laying claim to some Irish heritage perhaps in order to win back the baying mob of Irish supporters who have travelled over to support their hero.
“I’m disappointed in the country of Ireland!” Eddie

The Green Army were so loud that at one point White needed to tell a journalist to speak up as it was hard to hear him over the ‘Ole ole ole’s’ of the Irish fans.
Alvarez than declared that he couldn’t understand the Irish chanting while taking a pop at our accents (yawn).
Eddie Alvarez couldn’t take the crowd taunting anymore. He pulled a Nate Diaz and just got up and left. Wow. #UFC205

True to form, McGregor did appear, inciting Alvarez to return before things nearly spilled over.

“Sorry I’m late, I just don’t give a fuck!”
While some might argue McGregor’s wit isn’t as sharp as it was in the pre José Aldo days, it’s easy to spot that Alvarez does look shaken by some of his taunts.
Has McGregor broken him down psychologically in the same way he has previous opponents? Time will tell and one’s things for sure, UFC 205 on Saturday night, the first ever UFC event in New York City, will be a cracker.
