Mater Hospital Forced To Turn Patients Away Following IT Error

One of Dublin’s largest hospitals, The Mater Public in Phibsborough, Dublin 7, experienced a huge IT error just this week – forcing ambulances to divert patients to local hospitals.

The error, which occurred on Wednesday, also meant that doctors were unable to access records, meaning a whole array of appointments at the medical facility had to be postponed.

It has since been reported by the Irish Daily Mail that those same ambulances, that diverted from the Mater to Beaumont and St James’ Hospitals as a result of the IT error, had to be transported to a different hospital again, because those facilities were already at full capacity.

This follows a report carried out by Sinn Féin Deputy Leader Mary Lou McDonald TD just last year, that stated that there were a total of 59,173 appointments rescheduled in 2016 – an increase of nearly 24,000 since 2010.

Lovin Dublin has reached out to the Mater for comment.
