Plans have just been approved for a €16 million boutique hotel on Marlborough Street.
Located behind Clerys department store, the building currently known as Sackville House will be converted into a seven-storey building over the next few years.
According to Independent.ie, the Tetrarch Capital project had faced opposition by Wynn’s Hotel, who believed it illustrated a “lack of ambition” from the council, and An Taisce, who felt its height and design were not in-keeping with the surrounding area.
Nevertheless, An Bord Pleanála approved the development, which will ultimately bring a further 158 new hotel rooms to the city, as well as 150 jobs.
The hotel is expected to open in early to mid-2018.
