A man's body has been found in a field on the Meath/Kildare border this afternoon.

RTÉ reports that the man appears to have sustained gunshot wounds to the head. The discovery was made on the Meath/Kildare border between Dunboyne and Leixlip just after midday. The man's car has been found in Leixlip.

It's reported that the deceased was known to Gardaí for involvement in serious organised crime. They believe that he could be a man who was reported missing yesterday.
