Facebook Has Just Admitted Its App Has Been Draining Your iPhone’s Battery

Facebook has just confirmed that its app is responsible for draining your iPhone’s battery.

While some users had suspicions this was the case for some time, the social media company has only confirmed the truth of it yesterday.

However, the company have identified the source of the problem and are hoping to solve it.

Ari Grant, Engineering Manager for Facebook, said in a post on the website,

We recently heard reports of some people experiencing battery issues with the Facebook iOS app and have been looking into the causes of these problems. We found a few key issues and have identified additional improvements, some of which are in the version of the app that was released today.

Grant goes on to explain that the battery drainage is caused by two things: ‘CPU spin’ which is a data processing loop that wastes power, and the other relates to how the app manages audio sessions, which waste battery as they tend to stay open as if the app was playing audio silently.

Facebook are now releasing updates to combat these problems. To see Grant’s full post on the subject, click here.
