A woman who attempted to crash into the Government buildings in Dublin reportedly told Gardaí she wanted to meet Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.

The woman in her 50s, who’s reported to be from Drimnagh, had tried to drive her car through the gates of the Merrion Street buildings shortly after 10:05am on Tuesday morning.

She was later released without charge after being arrested for criminal damage and questioned in Pearse Street Garda station, though it’s said a file is now being prepared for the DPP.

A source told Dublin Live: “She was saying that she wanted to get into meet the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.

“The damage to the gate and her Nissan Micra car was minimal – she just wanted to drive the car into Government Buildings and speak to Leo.”

A Garda spokesperson confirmed that there were no injuries reported following the incident.

A source added: “She seemed angry at the Government and even said at one point she wanted to hand over her car to the Taoiseach.

“Every parameter of the incident will be explored but it certainly is not terrorist related – it seems to be a personal grudge.”
