Dublin’s finest and most fascinating buildings have been unlocked for the annual Open House Festival this weekend.
There are walking tours, screenings and more than 100 locations to explore today and tomorrow.
We’ve picked out some of the festival highlights for your touring pleasure.
1. Have a snoop around Facebook’s European HQ
This is definitely top of our list. The social media headquarters is open to visitors for special tours so you can see what goes on behind the slick doors, designed by Frank Gehry, one of America’s best-known architects.
2. The Killiney Obelisk
One of the best loved structures in the county, the hill’s obelisk was built in 1742 as a landmark for land and sea.
It’s worth getting up here for the view alone.
3. Discover the North Great George’s Street secret garden
This is a hidden gem on the northside, a mid-18th century Georgian town house with an incredible hidden garden.
We never knew this even existed.
4. See this restoration-in-progress on Thomas Street
Take a peek inside this historic building which is being reconstructed. It’s right next to the St James’s Gate brewing district.
5. Be inspired by this award-winning renovated home
Originally part of Dublin Corporation’s 1930s Crumlin housing scheme, this gaff is now an Airbnb dream house.
It won Best House Extension Award in the 2013 Irish Architecture Awards and it personifies house goals.
