Roddy Doyle’s ‘Two Pints’ Take On The Referendum Is A Must Read

James Fenton

Roddy Doyle’s ‘Two Pints’ series has often captured the mood of the nation in times of celebration and strife and with the referendum on the eighth amendment just around the corner, it’s no surprise that the writer has had his say once more.

This time, one of the lead characters is telling his mate a story about one of his daughters getting pregnant at 16 and the limited options that were presented to her in ’90s Dublin.

It comes to a head with the girl having to travel overseas and the two men revealing how they’re going to vote in the upcoming referendum.

You can check the piece out in full below.

The May 8 deadline for registering to vote before the referendum is fast approaching. You can check if you’re registered here. If not, all you have to do is fill out this form and get it stamped and signed at a Garda station. More details on the process can be found here
