One Of Dublin Zoo’s Most Beloved Animals Has Died Of An Unexpected Illness

Dublin Zoo has said they’re “extremely saddened” by the death of one of their gorillas who has been with them since 1988.

It’s still not known what caused the death of their western lowland gorilla Lena, who died unexpectedly aged 35.

The zoo’s director Leo Oosterweghel told Newstalk, “The unexpected loss of our ageing, female western lowland gorilla Lena was very upsetting.

“She was 35 years old and had given birth seven times since arriving at Dublin Zoo.”

Lena had been receiving round the clock care after falling ill last month and tests are currently being carried out to determine the cause of death.
