A video released by the Gardaí shows some alarming scenes in DCU as they dealt with a simulated 'terrorist attack' as part of extensive Garda emergency training.

The incident assessed how Gardaí would deal with a terrorist attack in the capital.

The operation titled: 'Operation Barracuda' scene Gardaí receiving 999 calls about a traffic collision on DCU.

Minutes later, a number of alleged terrorists exit the cars and begin shooting and attacking those in the area.

Gardaí said before the stimulated attack that:

"A 'live' major emergency training exercise is taking place on DCU campus now from 7pm to 10pm this evening. There may be temporary road closures and diversions in place at times in the vicinity of DCU and surrounding roads. Thank you for your cooperation.

"Please note, this exercise is not open to public viewing and a section of DCU campus will be closed during this time."
