fiodhna_hm

It’s looking like a sunny weekend in Dublin city, and there’s so much on! We’ve got everything from club nights and international DJ sets to movie screenings and listening parties.

If you’re on the fence about what to get up to this weekend, take a read of the following recommendations and see if any of them tickle your fancy!

Friday

Subject Presents Move D

Move D, one of electronic music’s living legends with a long and varied musical history with roots in 60s and 70s jazz, psychedelic, rock, soul and early electronica. His DJ sets are full of energy as he works hard to pull from all corners of his diverse catalogue in order to create a unique experience that will have all of the Twisted Pepper bopping away tonight.

Saturday

Film Fatale presents Chinatown & The Dirty Thirties Vintage Party

This night at the Sugar Club offers the chance to step back in time to the Roman Polanski’s seedy, drought-ridden 1930s L.A. with the film’s stars Faye Dunaway and Jack Nicholson. Dress up in your best vintage and get over to the Sugar Club where Film Fatale will be screening the classic Chinatown, followed by music from Jhil Quinn and the Cafe Vaudeville Band Film Fatale’s resident DJs, The Andrews Sisters’ Brothers.

Hollywood Babylon: Modern Girls/Mean Girls Pyjama Party

Movie nights seem to be the order of the day in Dublin this Saturday night. This time you better grab your best two piece and make sure you’ve packed clean pants because you’re going to a pyjama party! Are you feeling slightly sweaty, spotty and socially anxious all at once? Congratulations you’re 15 again! The Lighthouse Cinema is putting on the ultimate pyjama party complete with screenings of two of the best teen movies ever produced – Modern Girls and Mean Girls. There will be lashings of 80s disco music, games, sugary snacks, spin the bottle and lots more silliness so make sure you’ve asked your Mammy if you’re allowed and then head on over!

Sunday

Vinyl & Wine presents What’s Going On

To celebrate Record Store Day, the Dean Hotel will be hosting a Vinyl & Wine with a difference. You can listen to Marvin Gaye’s iconic album, ‘What’s Going On’ on top-quality vinyl in the shnazzy surroundings of the Dean. There’ll be a discussion panel, a special playing of an new Irish record and special giveaway on the day as well. Talk about a dignified event to roll in to after a boozy brunch!

Dip @ Soda

Soda know what Sundays are all about – pints, pizza, pool, pets and partying in the Bernard Shaw’s toasty smoking area. Their friends Dip will be joining them for the day, expect to hear them playing some Strictly Rhythm, West End Records, Aretha Franklin, Melba Moore, Egyptian Lover, Lil Louis, Andrés and plenty more. What better way to take the edge off that ever approaching Monday?
