As soon as all the major wedding stuff is sorted you can finally get going on the fun bit: getting creative with a bit of savvy DIY!

Now there’s no need to be scared of the thought of DIY. We’re not suggesting you go out and buy a Black and Decker workbench and matching power drill – because putting your stamp on the day is actually way easier than you might think.

Making your wedding ‘yours’ doesn’t have to be a massive, stressful undertaking. Trust us; it’s really only a matter of choosing a clever selection of cool props, prints and projects that reflect who you are as a couple.

This is where Dublin’s awesome décor, design and craft shops come in.

1. Moss Cottage

This little gem in Dundrum is wedding décor heaven. It’s pretty evident owner Jen Cleary knows her shizz – all her stock is expertly chosen and she stocks some brilliant décor brands you’d otherwise have to hunt down online.

Chalk paint, glitter banners, guest books, bridesmaid cards – it’s all here.

Oh, and Jen is lovely. I don’t know her personally, but any time I’ve been in the shop she was so helpful and enthusiastic, so I reckon that deserves a special mention.

2. Tiger

Oh posho IKEA-style poundshop wonderland of joy, what did we do before you came into our lives?

Photo booth props, candles for the ceremony, lace and ribbon for jars and swanky straws – all Tiger’s best. And with branches all over Dublin, you’re never too far from a fix.

3. Article

Located in Powerscourt Townhouse, this class little shop is full of contemporary stock that would look amazing as part of a modern, minimalist aesthetic.

The guys in there have managed to curate a deadly edit of homewares, arts and furniture, including pieces from some of our best home-grown designers. We challenge you to leave without buying something.

4. Jam Art Factory

If Dublin is part of your love story, Jam Art Factory has a huge selection of brilliant Dublin-themed prints to add to your venue.

Or if you’re after something a bit more quirky or unusual, the independent gallery and design shop – which has branches on Patrick Street and Crown Alley, Temple Bar – is (jam) packed with heaps of gorgeous art that’s bound to speak to you.

5. Designist

We’re mad about Designist on George’s Street. It’s a shop that gets you thinking the second you step in the door. “What’s this yoke?” sez you, every time you pick up something new – ‘cos it’s all so interesting.

Designist is packed with funky, cool pieces including Irish-designed homeware, prints and amazing letter ‘light boxes’ to personalise with your names.

6. Daintree

We might have waxed lyrical about these guys once or twice in terms of their invitations, but the Camden Street shop is full of brilliant décor bits too like banners, chair signs and partyware.

7. Industry & Co

That minimalist, industrial-chic wedding aesthetic is really taking off in Ireland. In direct contrast to the pretty vintage look, this styling is modern, clean-lined and simple, without being austere. If you’re going for this look, Industry & Co on Drury Street is your go-to for décor and inspiration.

And we reckon the industrial-styled concept store is as gorgeous as the stock it sells.

8. Hickey’s Home Focus

The Blanch branch (a bit proud of that) is full of every type of trimming, ribbon or fabric you’ll need. Whether you fancy making you own table runners, or you need a voile panel as part of your ceremony backdrop, you’ll find it here

9. Evan’s Art Supplies

Not since your primary school glory days will you be so excited to spend all your money an art supply shop.

If you’re DIY-ing you’ll need paper, lots of lots of paper – and glue and card and glittery pens and about a million other things you haven’t used since you were eleven. And you know you want to buy those crinkly scissors. Evan’s on Meetinghouse Lane will sort you out.
