As a teenage girl growing up in Ireland, there wasn't a whole lot of sartorial inspiration knocking around, so where else did we turn to for fashion advice? American television, obviously.
Here are our top 7 television show fashion icons who helped us dress ourselves during that turbulent time. Get ready for a trip down memory lane.
1. Kelly Kapowski
Kelly taught us so much about dressing. So much so that even to this day, we think of the Saved By The Bell star every time we wear an oversized denim jacket
2. Clarissa
As in Clarissa Explains It All. Not only were we green with envy over her unbelievably cool bedroom, but Clarissa's bananas outfit choices were the epitome of 90s cool. She single handedly made the scrunchy the accessory of the decade.
3. Tia and Tamera
These twins' matchy matchy outfits had us begging our sisters and besties to coordinate with us on all outfit choices. Shout out to their dungarees and coloured tights.
4. Joey Potter
The Dawson's Creek star was the perfect girl next door, with a normal gal's wardrobe to boot. She taught us to keep it simple. Her string tops and jean combos helped us transition from awkward teen to cool Leaving Cert-er who knew no bounds. Off to the disco.
5. Buffy
Hey, just because you have to balance boys, high school and slaying vamps doesn't mean you can't look good too. Buffy's total conquering of the miniskirt gave us the confidence to bare our own pasty legs with confidence. And we know you owned one of these tops (below). Oh yes, you did.
6. Hilary Banks
She was the Fresh Prince's rich cousin with a wardrobe to die for. OK, so we couldn't afford her trouser suits and we didn't even try to wear pearls as effortlessly as she did, but that didn't stop us wishing we had her daddy's credit card to splurge with.
7. Julie Connors
Remember Hang Time? Of course you do, it was only the COOLEST show ever (thanks Nickelodeon). Julie was so bad ass, not only was she well able to play a fair game of b-ball, but she was also way ahead of the sports luxe-game. Tank tops, tracksuit pants and ponytails all the way.

Dublin is glutted with literary magazines. They’re ten a penny; if today’s penny is actually €15 each. In 2017 Justine Carbery wrote in The Irish Independent “literary journals proved to be constant stars in a fluctuating market. Ireland, with its rich history of independent literary magazines, finds itself in rude health today with many new […]
(and Always) It’s never been more vital to support Queer-Owned Spaces in Dublin. Put your money where your morals are as often as you can. As someone who has worked in hospitality, I know that the people who run our bars, restaurants, and cafés shape the atmosphere more than the decor or the playlist ever […]
