Tried & Tested: I Gave The Makeup Fairy’s GlamFam Products A Go

Éadaoin Fitzmaurice

There’s no denying that The Makeup Fairy is one of the most talked-about influencers in Ireland right now.

As with any influencer who brings out a beauty product – there’s always going to be big interest. We know the face, we’ve heard the voice, so when they release their own product we’re always interested to see what it’s really like.

A few weeks back, I was kindly gifted some GlamFam products from Easilocks and I couldn’t wait to try them.

You *may* remember there was a mini Bloggers Unveiled drama when the Makeup Fairy posted a picture of mine without tagging me after I received the products – I have to say though, she corrected it immediately and from speaking to her, she seemed nice, possibly misunderstood.

So onwards and upwards.

Problem is, when I’m getting ready in the mornings, I give myself about 10/15 minutes to put my face on, which is definitely not enough time to try out a new product for the first time.

Last week, I finally got the chance.

I tried out three liquid highlights and four cream eyeshadows.

I had never used liquid highlighter before so it was a bit strange at first but I got the hang of it after a few attempts.

The Illuminating Drops

I received three different shades, Gleam, Glisten and Glow – basically dark, medium light.

I really like the shades, nice tones, just enough sparkle and my swatches looked stun.

Using a liquid to highlight your face definitely takes some practice.

I found it quite hard to blend and it seemed to rub off on my brush so I switched to my fingers, as the bottle had instructed. This did work better.

I went for the shade Glisten, which had a shiny, pinky tone to it – very natural but still enough to make an impact.

The liquid was definitely harder to blend in with my foundation than a powder, as it’s stickier. That being said, for this reason it did stay on longer than a powder would.

I’m more into a matte finish myself and I feel as though the illuminating drops would suit a dewy finish better.

I’ve definitely tried worse highlighters but I’ve also tried better.

It may grow on me – even on the second and third go, I liked it a lot more than the first. That does tend to happen when you switch beauty products though, doesn’t it?

Cream Pigments

I got pretty excited when I saw these cream eyeshadows as I’m a glitter fiend.

I adore having a bit of sparkle on a night out and I find that cream pigments are great for keeping glitter in place.

The swatches turned out pretty well, the darker colours came out a lot better than the light, so I guessed that you’d need to apply a whole lot more of the light for the same impact.

I decided to use the shade Socialite which is a kind of gold/brown/silver colour.

And then it happened.

As soon as I had applied the shadow on my lid it transferred to the upper part of my lid, rubbed off the main area I had applied and left a weird crease line.

It seems you have to keep your eyes closed for a good few minutes to let it dry and I am not about that life. I hadn’t even applied that much.

I kept applying thin coats and letting them dry gradually, it was a bit of a nuisance but I wanted to get the best results out of a bad situation.

Eventually I got it to how I wanted it to look, by this stage I had been putting it on for a good 15 minutes, topping-up the blotchy patches that would appear each time I blinked.

Not ideal at all.

By that stage, my eye stung from how much of the product that had been rubbed on it.

Once I dried it, blended in my own shadows and gave it some TLC however, it did look good. I even had a few people in work ask me what product I was wearing.

Is it worth €9.99 though? Nah I wouldn’t tbh.

Overall, I feel a bit meh towards Glamfam.

Was I amazed by it? No.

Did I like it? I did like some of it to be fair.

The highlighter is a nice product, the eyeshadow cream – I’m not too sure about.

I don’t think I’d be rushing to the shops to get it but if I was browsing, picking up a few bits, I’d probably throw it in the trolley.

Is there anything you’d like me to review? Leave it in the comments below and it could feature next week.
