If you go down to 39 Drury Street today, you’re in for a big surprise.
There’s nothing we love here at Lovin Dublin like a new opening and The Rag Trader, situated just across the road from Considered and entered via the old back entrance of Dakota, is a great addition to the city’s bar scene.
Cosy, homely and stylish, the meticulous attention to detail is evident in everything from the apothecary table at the bar to the ashwood menu holders.
The name comes from the history of the surrounding streets, as both South William Street and Drury Street were once well known as popular rag trade districts.
Since then, Drury Street has become one of Dublin’s most exclusive areas for bars and restaurants and we reckon that The Rag Trader will fit right in.
Whiskey lovers should feel at home here, with over 40 Irish brands on offer at the bar.
Resident whiskey expert Keith Warren fronts the bar so even if you don’t know your bourbon from your rye, you’ll find something that’s memorable for all the right reasons.
(His personal favourite, ‘Keith’s Tray’, isn’t even on the menu – but ask for this and you’re on to a winner.)
If whiskey isn’t your thing, they also stock a plethora of stouts, craft beers,barrel-aged cocktails, gin, gluten-free beers and a selection of non-alcoholic beverages too.
That’s not all, as Head Chef Gary Flynn has curated a very tempting menu for the venue.
The focus is very definitely on fresh seafood, which is sourced locally and delivered on a daily basis.
Think Connemara oysters, Northern Irish salmon and the most delicious scampi from the west coast and you’ll have a good grasp of what they’re going for here.
The Rag Trader also hosts whiskey tasting classes, which will allow you to sample some of the finest whiskeys from around the world. Ideal for some team bonding with the work crew or just an excuse for a day out.
Available for private hire for groups of up to 150 people, it’s one to bear in mind if you’re planning an event.
There you have it – another great spot to check out for the weekend.
