Thinking of popping the question this Christmas?
There are countless romantic settings around Dublin which won’t involve splashing out on a fancy hotel room or a slap-up meal. Let’s face it, the wedding itself is going to cost you an arm and a leg.
Make the most wonderful time of the year even more wonderful by getting down on one knee in any of these gorgeous settings around the city.
Your other half will be saying “yes” before you’re even halfway through your over-rehearsed speech.
1. Ha’penny Bridge
You’re surrounded by the history of capital and it’s the perfect location for the obligatory engagement selfie.
2. Iveagh Gardens waterfall
A rare peaceful spot in an otherwise busy city. Until your other half starts screaming with joy, that is.
3. Cliffs in Howth
You’ll probably be out of breath after the walk so take some time to enjoy the views before getting down on one knee.
4. Grafton Street
It might seem obvious but imagine popping the question on a virtually-empty Grafton Street on Christmas Day.
5. The Shrine Of St. Valentine
If you insist on having a witness, why not the patron saint of love at Whitefriar Street Church?
6. Sandymount Strand
Sunset and champagne. Can’t go wrong.
7. Pope’s Cross
Alright, Ireland isn’t as religious as it once was but this setting is still perfect for one of the happiest moments of your life.
Just make sure you don’t have your good trousers on as it can get fairly mucky in the winter.
8. Ticknock Walk
This Dublin Mountains hideaway has some of the most spectacular views over the city. Once they’ve said yes, head to Lamb Doyles to make those all-important calls and texts.
9. A tandem ride in the Phoenix Park
Working hard together to achieve common goals? It kind of sounds symbolic of married life when you think about it.
Stop off along the way and if they say no it’s not like they can cycle off without you. More information here.
10. Croke Park or Aviva Stadium
Did your love blossom over a common passion for GAA, rugby or soccer? Take a guided tour of one of Dublin’s two behemoth stadia, either side of the river.
Staff have been known to go all out if you let them know beforehand.
11. Horse and carriage
It doesn’t get more old-school or romantic than this. There are always a few waiting across from St. Stephen’s Green or alternatively, click here.
12. The Great South Wall Walk
Looking over the Irish Sea on a brisk December evening. The walk will take about half an hour from where you park to the lighthouse. Plenty of time to work up some courage.
13. The bridge in St. Stephen’s Green
A wonderful setting and you can head to any of the city’s cosy pubs after to share the news.
14. Killiney Hill
Another spot with amazing views which will take their breath away before you get a chance to.
15. Bray to Greystones walk
Not exactly Dublin but Bray is a short DART ride away.
16. The Hole In The Wall
If bae is a big Christmas fiend there’s no better spot than Dublin’s most Christmassy pub.
God speed!
